Pine-shaded campsites along the Carmans River, one of Long Island's last wild trout streams, with rowboat and canoe rentals steps from your tent. On summer Sundays the miniature steam trains of the Long Island Live Steamers run right in the park, which small kids treat like a religious event.

Book 180 days out through the Suffolk County reservation system with a Green Key; grab a riverside site if you can and bring a fishing rod for the stocked trout.
