Nassau-Suffolk Greenbelt Trail

Nearly 20 miles from Cold Spring Harbor on the Sound to Massapequa on the South Shore, threading a green corridor straight through suburbia. The northern half rolls over real moraine hills; the southern half glides past the Massapequa ponds. Section-hike it and you have earned your bagel.
LOCAL TIP
Start at the Merrick Road end by Massapequa Lake for flat pond-side miles, or the Route 25A lot in Cold Spring Harbor if you want the hills first. Blazes are white; the LIRR at Cold Spring Harbor makes a one-way hike doable.
